課程概述

The purpose of learning English is to use it and to have fun ♡
This course is dedicated to creating an interactive environment for students to use English to think, communicate, reflect, and most importantly, to develop critical thinking abilities with academic rigor. The four skills in English—listening, reading, writing, and speaking—will be effectively integrated throughout this semester. Each session contains listening and reading practices as well as various in-class activities, such as peer collaboration, group discussions, presentations, writing workshop, and interactive games. In particular, students are expected to regularly contribute to English-only class discussions. Reading handouts will be available on the NTU COOL site.

★ The instructor reserves the right to change the course schedule.
★ For students who need the course-add code, this class follows the manner of “first-come, first-served.” Students who inform the instructor through email about course registration will be prioritized on the waiting list.

課程目標
In this semester, we will focus more on the topics of arts and humanities (culture and science-related topics are also included). From the exploration of art, we will consider broader figurative meanings in the English language, as well as a more sophisticated sense of aesthetic appreciation. In addition to context-specific reading and listening practices, fundamentals of paragraph writing are vital for students to develop their persuasion and argumentation skills. Meanwhile, English conversation practice is highlighted through numerous discussion-based activities. By the end of this course during the fall semester, students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in English through expanding their knowledge and perspectives on various subjects from authentic English materials.
